September Book Introduction -Big Friendship
This month I am reading Big Friendship, How We Keep Each Other Close by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman.
The Reasons I Chose this Book: My best friend Stephanie has moved back to our hometown after years of living out of state for Medical school. I found out she was moving back home around the end of July beginning of August, so my August book had already been chosen, so I decided to read a book that focused on friendship for September, to celebrate her coming back.
I also chose this book because it is a memoir, but it is co-written by two friends. I liked the idea of reading a memoir written by multiple people so that you can get both sides of the story since they are working together to show how and why events unfolded the way that they did, and how each side contributed to the unfolding. Often with memoirs, you only get one perspective and there is a lot of speculation on the motives of the others involved, so this format removes the need for a lot of speculation by having both participants in the events write the story together.
Lastly, I chose this book because I am trying to expand my reading repertoire by branching into genres that I do not typically read, such as memoirs and non-fiction. I feel that to be a true bibliophibian I need to be exposing myself to all the literary wonders that are available.
My Prediction For This Book: I have read the prologue section of this book, and I do not think that this will be just a list of steps that you need to follow in order to keep friends, but rather it is going to be a collection of the stories that illustrate different core ideas about friendship and how these core ideas relate to maintaining friendships as we get older.
